HARVEST FESTIVAL – 2001-2002

Although I painted this picture when I was 50, the idea behind it had been around in my mind since I was  very young.  When I was a small boy I would walk across the fields every Sunday afternoon to the little Saxon Church overlooking the wonderful Mimram Valley to Sunday School.  I used to love the church, and would imagine all the people who had come there over the past thousand years, and how they had worked in the surrounding fields to produce the food they depended upon.  Paintings are like poems, and this one took well over forty years to find the right words.
